Numerical methods and CAE are important topics in your DDM master course. Additionally, this course - which, to be honest, is a maths course - has the purpose to support you with mathematical topics which are needed in other courses. These topics might have been covered in your bachelor studies (and you might have forgotten them), oder they might be new to you - in both cases this lecture is an opportunity to improve your skills in mathematics.
